This Texas 2-step soup mix in a jar recipe is easy to put together and will store for quick weeknight meals or be a perfect mason jar edible gift. The soup mix has macaroni, gravy mix, seasonings, and tortilla chips that then needs corn, canned tomatoes and ground beef along with water to make the Texas 2-Step Soup from the premade mason jar mix.
I just spent the last four days in sunny California. My girlfriend from the University of Illinois is finishing her PhD at Berkley. So, another gal pal of mine and our husbands headed for San Francisco and wine country for a long weekend. I wanted to cry when I realized the long weekend was over. I will be giving you all the ins and outs of the trip when I have the energy to download the 500+ pictures.
While I was away, some of my gal pals got together for a Freeze-O-Rama day headed up by Cris from Goodeness Gracious. Lucky for me, my friend Megan and her sister Barbara over who blog together over at These Old Cookbooks put together my meals for me and delivered meals to my freezer. She pretty much rocks and has a great bottle of wine being delivered from Napa Valley with her name on it.
So, since Megan and Barbara were "pinch-cooking" I tried to make it simple. I sent her the ingredients for Texas 2-Step Soup Mix in a 16-ounce mason jar with a complimentary pound of homegrown hamburger.
The jar can also be given with a pound of ground beef, a jar of corn with peppers, and a jar of tomatoes. It is a great gift for a new mom, teacher, or other busy people in your life.

The Brown Gravy mix you are using in the picture looks the same size as mine but mine is .87 oz and your recipe calls for 1.61 oz. Did you use 2 packages per jar? Thanks

@Kathy Wheeler - I realize my reply is way too late to help you, but for others . . . It seems that to just print the card designed to attach to the jar of soup mix, move the cursor to the image of the printable card. Right click on the image and choose "Open link in new tab." You will then be able to see just the image in the new tab. Then, you can opt to save the image as a PNG document (a graphics file format.)

How long will these store and how many will it feed?

I made this today in the slow cooker, tried to go vegetarian, but the gravy mix has beef fat. At least I tried. I used two cans of black beans, the diced tomatoes, a hand full of frozen fire roasted corn, and cup of frozen multi color peppers plus all the ingredients listed. It smelled amazing!! After 8 hours I added a cup of pasta and put the slow cooker on high for 45 minutes. The flavor was good but very salty. Maybe next time only half the gravy powder and no additional salt. Any other ideas??

Do you think that you could make this with freeze-dried ground beef? I'm assuming that you could also freeze-dry the corn and diced tomatoes also. That way it would be shelf-stable and ready to make just by adding water. Kind of thinking of ways to use my new Harvest Right Freeze Dryer. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them.

The jarred mix looks pretty and sounds tasty but it would be nice to see a picture of the finished soup. Visual appeal is also important.

Hi, what size mason jar should I use?
