Jesus sure knows how to color

Now, we tend to be a fairly healthy family. We have about one ear infection a year and the normal snotty noses and coughs that go hand in hand with school or child care. But I got my scare Thursday night when I got home from traveling with work to find my dear daughter covered in a rash.

You may not see it in this picture as she colors, but check these out. She had lots of colorful additions to her fading tanned skin. Jesus did quite the coloring job.

I called the pediatrician on call who just told me to get some Benadryl and call in the morning if it didn’t help. Well, it helped her sleep, but the rash stayed in tack. Hubby and I spent the night cataloging everything she ate, drank and came in contact with the last three days. She had her yearly ear infection the week previous and had finished up her amoxicillin a few days prior, so we had ruled that out.

Well, the next day it was discovered she still had a double ear infection. No concrete answer was given on the cause of the rash though.

But from this, you should be able to tell it didn’t put a damper on her day.

  1. Too cute – the song not the rash!

  2. I used to get the same rash (looks like the hives I used to get) when I was a kid. Never figured out what it was from though! I always remember it was near girl scout cookie time when I'd get it…I feel for her!!

  3. Bless her heart. Maybe some topical hydorcortizone (sp?) would calm the itching down. Hang in there!

Looks like Roseola. I am no doctor but, my son has had that twice and both times it was accompanied by an ear infection. The rash appeared afterhis fever broke.

Could be Roseola, but, since she had a known ear infection, it may not be Roseola (which is viral), but rather just a symptom/side effect of the infection. As a child, I had recurrent strep that would always cause a rash like this when my fever broke. Mother threw away more than one antibiotic before our pediatrician made her a believer that it was not a drug allergy, but just a manifestation of the bacterial infection itself.

  8. Poor baby. Gosh, so many things with kids are a guessing game. She is so adorable though!!

I was going to guess a strep rash (also called Scarletina (sp?) or scarlet fever) but so many rashes look alike they are hard to diagnose. I can't tell you how many rashes I have seen with the question "what do you think this is?" "is it contagious?!" when I worked as a school nurse! Glad she feels okay!

  12. Have they had the chicken pox? (I know the one non-mom in the group only has that suggestion to offer up) But regardless i hope she gets to feeling better soon!!!
