It being the Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy.
I actually also read book two, Fifty Shades Darker and book three, Fifty Shades Freed.
Since Mama's Losin' It had a writing prompt this week about a book review, I thought I would jump off the cliff and confess to my latest dirty little secret.
This is not normal reading for me. These are the books I have accumulated just in the last few weeks at work functions.

What Americans Really Want...Really: The Truth About Our Hopes, Dreams, and Fears
So, just how did I find myself reading this erotic, fictional novel being described as "mommy porn." I can't believe I just wrote that!
I blame it on my insomnia since returning from India. I just can't sleep well. So, I was wide awake at 4 am watching the CBS late late night news when the anchor talked about this book that is the craze of housewives across the country now has a movie deal. I was clueless. I hadn't even heard of it.
Was I living under a rock? So, I opened my iPad and opened iBooks to download a sample of this Fifty Shades of Grey book.
After reading the 30 pages sample, I immediately downloaded the entire novel. I was devastated when I realized it was already 6:30 am, and it would soon be time to get the kids up and out the door to school.
I just couldn't stop reading.
It is the farthest thing from what a conservative Christian should be reading. This is not even close to a PG-13 book.
It is erotic.
It is sensual.
It is naughty.
I had to Google what half of this domination-submissive sexual relationship was doing.
I know, I should have not read it but now I can't stop talking about it. I can't stop thinking about it.
When the college coed, Ana Steele, meets high-powered CEO billionaire, Christian Christian, weeks before graduation for an interview she is doing for the college paper, the love affair begins. Along with the entry into their not so normal relationship.
From the first kiss, I was hooked...
"The elevator arrives, and we step in. We're alone. Suddenly, for some inexplicable reason, possibly our proximity in such an enclosed space, the atmosphere between us changes, charged with electric, exhilarating anticipation. My breathing alters as my heart races. His head turn fractionally toward me, his eyes darkest slate. I bite my lip.
"Oh, f*@$ the paperwork," he growls. He lunges at me, pushing me against the wall of the elevator. Before I know it, he's got both of my hands in one of his in a vise-like grip above my head, and he's pinning me to the wall using his hips. Holy shit. His other hand grabs my hair and yanks down, bringing my face up, and his lips are on mine. It's only just not painful. I moan into his mouth, giving his tongue an opening. He takes full advantage, his tongue expertly exploring my mouth. I have never been kissed like this. My tongue tentatively strokes his and joins his in a slow, erotic dance that's all about touch and sensation."
And this is just the beginning of book one...
I finished the first book in the middle of the night and of course immediately downloaded the next book. I couldn't just end that way. I couldn't wait a few days to start the next book.
I was flustered. Aggravated. Hot.
The tension between them was thick. They fought. They made up. They fought.
" "Oh, baby, no." He tugs my hand and before I know it I'm on his lap. He has his arms around me, and his nose in my hair. "I've missed you so much, Anastasia." he breathes.
I want to struggle out of his hold, to maintain some distance, but his arms are wrapped around me. He's pressing me to his chest. I melt. Oh, this is where I want to be."
So by the next day when I was done with the second book I was even more dying to know what happened in the third book.
At this point I understand all the teenagers crazy love for the Twilight. This is the mommy version of Twilight. I get it now. I just had the luxury of not having to wait for the next book to be published. I got the gift of all three on my iPad.
The third book, Fifty Shades Freed, is the intersect of so many lives from both Christian and Ana's past. My heart was pounding in fear and reeling in happiness as I read the final book. Extra chapters at the end of the book helped to give insight to the behind the scenes information from the story.
While I smiled as the book came to a close, I feel like I lost a relationship as well. My relationship with the characters on the page that are in mind. I know who I would like to play Anastasia and Christian in the movie, but I am guessing we all have mental images of two different people as we read the book.
So, go order the books now!

No books were received for free nor did the author E.L. James or the publisher, Vintage, ask me to review this book. I am sharing this out of my pure, unadulterated obsession. However, affiliate links were used like mad all over this post.

I'm almost done with the first book, and while I'm enjoying the basic, I don't really see what all the fuss is about. But based on your review, I will go ahead and order the other two books!

I don't want to feel guilty for reading the book, so I clean first then read! Lol!! I am a teacher though & getting home & getting homework done is all I can think about! Lol!!
Btw... I am a fellow Hoosier!

These books are some of the worst written I have ever read, but damned if I could put them down. The plot points are a potpourri of typical soap opera plots but the sex is hot, though repetitive. I still think though that one of the major turn ons for this, besides being able to hide what you are reading on e-readers, is that people are indulging Edward and/or Robert Pattinson fantasies by picturing them in the characters.
did not sleep for days
I am yet another in a long line of people saying "never read anything like this..ever" but I am also in another long line of people who, despite the mediocre prose, etc, could not put these darn books down! You do get caught up in the story, even though you know how things will end (ok, easy..usually with kinky $%$#). Very surprised - who knew?

I had no trouble at all putting this book down.. maybe its my age. Not impressed and not reading the rest of the book or the trilogy...
