Sometimes life if just last minute. Ok, more than sometimes in my case. This is why this bubble-up pizza casserole that is quick to assemble and bakes in under 30 minutes will be a new staple around here.
Bubble-Up pizza casserole is an easy weeknight meal since the casserole is made with Grands biscuits, spaghetti sauce, and your favorite pizza toppings. I load up the cheese and meat in my bubble pizza casserole, but you can use whatever toppings you love.
Bubble-Up Pizza Casserole Ingredients
The ingredients for this bubble pizza are simple ingredients I always have on hand for a quick meal.
- Grands Biscuits - These are the large refrigerator biscuits that come in a can. If you can't find the large ones, the small ones will work as well. An extra can might be needed though to make it work.
- Spaghetti Sauce - Tomato sauce is a must. Pizza sauce can be used if you prefer. Due to the quantity of sauce needed, spaghetti is more economical.
- Sausage or Ground Beef - Sausage crumbles or ground beef works in this pizza casserole recipe
- Shredded cheese - Either Shredded mozzarella cheese, Italian cheese blend, or pizza cheese blend will work in this recipe. In a pinch, I have also used shredded Colby cheese.
- Pepperoni - Pepperoni slices or mini pepperonis work in this recipe. I would cut up the pepperoni if you use the regular-sized slices in the casserole. The mini pepperonis are perfect to be stirred in. Whole pepperonis work on the top of the casserole to give a pizza feel to the recipe.
- Other Pizza Toppings - Whatever you like on the top of pizzas works in this bubble up pizza casserole. Onions, Bell Peppers, Olives, Ham, Bacon are all additional add-ins you can add to the recipe.
How to make Bubble-Up Pizza Bake
I use my Pampered Chef micro cooker when I need browned meat in a hurry. I start by putting my frozen pound of ground pork in the cooker for 3 minutes on high. Remove it and begin to break away the softened and cooked pieces. At this point, I throw in any veggies I want with my pizza toppings. Veggies need to be a part of a good bubble-up pizza casserole.
I put the meat in for another 3-4 minutes till the pork is completely cooked.
While the meat was cooking, I opened a can of large refrigerator biscuits, the kind with 8 biscuits in a can. I proceeded to cut the biscuits in quarters.
Then separate the biscuits and place them in a large bowl. Add any additional toppings you want on your pizza that doesn't need precooking.
Add the cooked sausage to the biscuits and other toppings, stirring to combine. Then pour a 26-ounce jar of spaghetti sauce over top the toppings and biscuits.
Mix the sauce in together with the all the toppings and biscuits and pour out into a 13 x 9 pan.
Cover the casserole with shredded cheese. Mozzarella, Italian blend, a little colby-jack. Whatever you have two cups of in the fridge.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until biscuits bubble up and are cooked and cheese melted. It really should resemble the top of a pizza.
Let bubble-up pizza casserole rest a minute or two before serving, and then be ready for it to be devoured! My kids have been loving this casserole recipe for years.
Two helpings are always a must. Don't have time to wait for the casserole to bake? No fear, I have mastered the casserole crock pot version for the crock pot bubble-up pizza casserole.
