Instructions
Get the oven on and preheated to 350 degrees. Season the pork chops with salt and pepper or a steak and chop seasoning.
Begin by spraying a casserole dish or 13x9 pan with cooking spray and pouring the packaged rice mixes into the baking dish.
Add the melted butter, cream of chicken soup, and cream of mushroom soup to the rice. Then, pour in the milk.
Stir to combine the rice, soup, and milk. Then, add the seasoned pork chops to the rice mixture. The pork chops will be submerged.
Finally, sprinkle parmesan cheese on top, cover the pork chops and rice with aluminum foil, and bake the pork chops and rice casserole for one hour.
When the pork chops reach 155 degrees and the rice has absorbed the liquid, the cheesy pork chops and rice are done. The baking time will depend on the thickness of your pork chops. If you want to brown up the top, remove the foil for the last ten minutes of baking.
That's it! This baked pork chops and Knorr's rice casserole dinner is so simple but deeply satisfying. The pork chops stay tender and juicy while the seasoned rice from Knorr's is packed with flavor that complements the pork perfectly. You can use any variety you like - Cheddar, Broccoli, Chicken or even Beef - they all work well.
Hint: If you want the pork chops to cook faster, brown for 2 minutes on each side in a cast iron skillet before baking.
Substitutions
If you want to make this recipe don't have the exact ingredients, here are ways to substitute the ingredients.
- Rice - instead of prepackaged Knorr's rice, you can substitute 2 cups of plain long-grain white rice and mix with ยฝ cup of parmesan cheese, one teaspoon of garlic powder, and one teaspoon of onion powder.
- Milk— If you want to decrease the amount of dairy in the recipe, use water or chicken broth in place of the milk. The cream of mushroom and cream of chicken soup and cheese will still have dairy in them, though.
- Gluten Free - The gluten free cream of mushroom soups can be used in place of the cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soups.
Variations
Give this recipe a different flavor with these ideas for how to change up this pork chops and parmesan rice casserole.
- Different Rice Flavors: Instead of using the Parmesan flavor of Knorr rice, you can experiment with other flavors such as Mushroom, Cheddar Broccoli, or Spanish Rice. Each flavor will add a unique twist to the dish.
- Add Vegetables: To boost the casserole's nutritional value, add diced bell peppers, peas, carrots, or spinach. Stir them into the rice mixture before baking.
- Change Up the Cheese: While cheddar and Parmesan cheese add a delicious richness to the casserole, feel free to use other types of cheese, such as mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or Swiss cheese, for a different flavor profile.
- Herb Infusion: Enhance the dish's flavor by adding fresh or dried herbs to the rice mixture. For an aromatic touch, add chopped fresh parsley, basil, thyme, or rosemary.
- Marinade for Pork Chops: Experiment with different marinades or spice rubs for the pork chops. Try a simple olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, and herbs marinade, or use your favorite store-bought marinade for added convenience.
- Make it Spicy: If you enjoy a bit of heat, add some diced jalapeños, red pepper flakes, or a dash of hot sauce to the rice mixture for a spicy kick.
- Gluten-Free Option: If you're following a gluten-free diet, ensure that the Knorr rice side dish you choose is gluten-free. Additionally, you can top the casserole with gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed gluten-free crackers instead of Parmesan cheese.
- Protein Variation: While pork chops are traditional for this recipe, you can also use other proteins such as chicken breasts, boneless pork loin chops, or even tofu for a vegetarian option.
- Creamy Sauce: For extra creaminess, stir a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt int he rice mixture before baking. This will add a luscious texture and tangy flavor to the casserole.
- Topping Variations: Get creative with the toppings! Add crispy bacon bits, sliced green onions, toasted breadcrumbs, or crushed potato chips for added crunch and flavor.
