Now, I am sure you are thinking, seriously, how to make the best grilled cheese? Bread, cheese, butter...what else is there? Let me just say, I thought the same thing. Until one late night in college when I learned differently. My BFF and I were over at fraternity called Farmhouse with some of our guy friends when one of them showed me the light. Not all grilled cheese sandwiches are made equally.
How to Make the Best Grilled Cheese Sandwich
You start with cheese and REAL butter. I happen to have some supper fantastic garlic and parsley butter and onion Havarti cheese from Fair Oaks Farms.
I sliced up the cheese.
Now, here is the secret...
Are you ready?
Take your butter and spoon it into the hot skillet.
Let it get good and melted. You will be in shock and awe at how much more crisp the bread is by soaking it straight into hot, melted butter.
Then place your bread on the melted butter and give it a good spoon to sop it all up. Put the cheese on top and wait before you put the second slice of bread. Cover with a lid and let cook. Make sure the heat is on low. This is a slow, low heat process.
When you are ready to flip, place the second piece of bread on top.
Using a spatula, pick up the sandwich and put another spoon of butter down in the pan to melt. When the butter is melted, flip the sandwich down in the melted butter.
Cook for another minute or two. No need to cover it this time. Cheese should be getting nice and gooey on its own.
Remove the sandwich from the pan and slice it in half. Enjoy the best grilled cheese sandwich.

How to Make the Best Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Instructions
- Slice the cheese you choose to make the sandwich. Recommend using Havarti, Colby-Jack, Cheddar, Swiss, or American.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. When the pan is hot, melt half the butter in the pan. Then when it is melted, place the bread on the melted butter.
- Layer the cheese on the bread in the pan, then cover with a lid for a minute to begin melting the cheese.
- Place the second piece of bread on the cheese. Remove the sandwich from the pan and melt remaining butter in the pan. Flip the sandwich into the pan to toast the other side.
- Cook the sandwich for another minute or two. Turn down the heat to ensure you don't burn the bread.

This does not look like it fits into my diet at lot. One of my favorite meals is tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. My favorite grill cheese is made with this mozzarella basil cheese that a friend brings me from Wisconsin. Yum!

Would love to try yours...otherwise, my dad makes the only killer grilled cheese I know! It has about 5000 calories per sandwich though I'm sure! We even started making it on a griddle over the camp fire last year. You have to butter both sides of every slice of bread and brown one side before adding cheese and flipping. We like pepper cheese or one slice of american and one slice of pepper. YUM!

Have not tried garlic butter. Great idea. I've been experimenting with making a blue cheese grilled cheese. Need another cheese to go with it. Also have a creamy gorgonzola cheese creation on the list. Will have to give the Havarti a try.
